GHRP-6 is short for Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide 6 which is a hexapeptide with a chain comprised of 6 amino acids. This special sequence signals the body to begin secreting Growth Hormone (GH) while also blocking Somatostatin, a hormone that inhibits Growth Hormone release.
Research studies have shown that GHRP-6 stimulation of Growth Hormone secretion has a host of beneficial effects associated with increased growth hormone levels such as decreased body fat, increased muscle, and increased strength and stamina. Increased amounts of Growth Hormone then can cause the liver to secrete the hormone IGF-1 which has also been implicated in improving the animal body’s ability to burn fat and build muscle. Clinical cases have shown that the use of GHRP-6 was associated with increased muscle mass and a reduction of body fat. GHRP-6 has become a viable alternative to Growth Hormone supplementation for anti-aging benefits.
It has become clear that GHRP-6 acts on the pituitary and hypothalamic sites of its research test subjects. These studies also showed that the growth hormone release brought about by GHRP-6 was inhibited by somatostatin, suggesting that its main target is actually the hypothalamus. Somatostatin was also inhibited whenever GHRP-6 brought the GRF neurons to life.
There are a number of secretagogue peptides available which help boost Growth Hormone secretion, some of which include Hexarelin, GHRP-2, GHRP-6 and Ipamorelin which are listed from most potent to the least potent with Ipamorelin being equally potent to GHRP-6. The main side effects from these peptides is that they can adversely increase cortisol and prolactin levels. This side effect is most pronounced with the first two peptides listed and less so with GHRP-6 which is why it is favored by many as it has fewer side effects. Ipamorelin does not effect these hormones at all so is considered safer again. In addition senitisation reactions are less prevalent with GHRP-6 and Ipamorelin making these a better choice. GHRP-6 however it can stimulate hunger as one of the main side effects so Ipamorelin is the considered the safest option.
Some prefer to stimulate their growth hormone secretion with secretagogues such as Ipamorelin/GHRP-6 rather than use Growth Hormone itself. Which ever way you decide to go it is important that your dose is adjusted based on follow up growth hormone tests as you do not want your levels getting above the normal physiological range. The aim is to achieve levels in the upper 1/3 of the normal reference range which is considered optimal.
One of the benefits of GHRP-6 over Human Growth Hormone is that it is significantly cheaper costing less than half the price.
GHRP-6 and Ipamorelin are only available with a doctors prescription in Australia.
