Our pharmacy provides custom-compounded medications that can be applied to wounds to assist in recovery. Compounding allows for the concurrent administration of medications including anesthetics to reduce pain, antibiotics to reduce bioburden, enzymes such as collagenase or urea for debridement of the wound, medications to stimulate granulation tissue and growth factors, as well as for moisture enhancement and balance.
Examples of medications that one can apply concurrently to achieve wound healing would include phenytoin, Mupirocin, Metronidazole, itraconazole, Gentamycin, Lidociane, and Nifedipine.
These may be compounded into a powder to help absorb excess moisture from the wound or into a cream to help moisturize the wound if needed.
