Many private health insurance companies in Australia will not cover compounded medications. Bupa, a british owned company which owns the insurers MBF, HBA and Mutual Community will not claim on any compounded medications so we do not recommend you get your health insurance through any of these insurers if you intend to claim your compounded medications.
At this stage the government owned Medibank in addition to HCF both cover compounded medications so if your looking for a new private insurance company that will cover your compounded medications these two should be on top of your list. To be sure before you join check that they will cover your specific medications as policies do change over time.
