PRIMERS
Primer formulas are used in the Pfeiffer Protocol for the biochemical treatment of patients with Autism. It is a supplement formulated to help rectify any copper:zinc imbalances in the body. It also assists in the promotion of metallothionein (MT) proteins. Promotion of these MT proteins many benefit Autism patients by:

Primer formulas contains zinc (as picolinate), Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (activated Vit B6), Vit B6, manganese gluconate and essential antioxidants (vitamins C and E). Supplementation with high dose zinc and other nutrients in the Primer formula is recommended for at least 4 to 8 weeks but can be up to 6 months or more. Sensitive patients may require a gradual build up of zinc dosages. It is also important to note that Primers should be taken with food to minimise any nausia the high dose zinc may cause.
The Zinc loading provided by the Primer should precede any MT promotion for best results as each molecule of MT requires 7 atoms of zinc for proper functioning. Primer is therefore used as the first step or Phase 1 of Pfeiffers Protocol in nutritional supplementation of patients with Autism, particularly for those with zinc:copper imbalances. The second step or Phase 2 of this protocol designed by Pfeiffer includes the cautious introduction of MT promotion nutrients (ie. MT Promotor caps).
Our standard Primer contains: 50mg Vit B6, 25mg Pyridoxyl-5-phosphate (active form of Vit B6), 50mg Zinc (as picolinate), 7.5mg manganese (as gluconate), 300mg Vit C (as magnesium ascorbate), 22mg magnesium (as ascorbate), 100mg Vit E (as mixed tocopherols). The doses of any ingredients can be altered to suit individual requirements.
